Manual for operation, assembly and maintenance of the dome rooflights ARTUS A 3000
Type ARTUS - A 3000/FIX, A 3000/EL, A 3000/MAN, A 3000/VY
The dome rooflights serve for natural lighting or, as the case may be, day ventilation of buildings; it is therefore necessary to clean the domes regularly of impurities and grease. Use non-aggressive detergents and cloth for cleaning the domes; never use cleaning solvents. Attention! Do not step through the dome! The dome must not be exposed to chemical substances that attack this material. The dome must not be exposed to extremely high temperatures (65 – 70°C) or used in an environment with considerable temperature differences.
The mobile parts of the rooflights and actuators (hinges, spindle, drawbar) must be treated regularly with oil or lubrication grease, at least once a year together with the functional inspection of the entire rooflight. When controlling the rooflights, it is necessary to proceed in accordance with the valid safety regulations, primarily with the regulations related to the operation of electric machines and equipment. In the winter season, take care that there is no thick layer of snow on the rooflight; if the rooflight is overloaded with snow, the opening mechanism may be damaged or ripped out when opening.
The following basic rules must be respected when controlling A 3000/MAN:- Insert the hook of the control crank into the eye of the opening mechanism and turn it; you may leave the rooflight open in any position.
- Set the spacing of the fasting mechanism with the inner spindle, see the following figure! If setting is carried out incorrectly with the outer spindle, the end position will not be defined and there is a danger that the attachment will be ripped out.

- The motor run can be changed only if the motor is not running.
- Local ventilation control is carried out by pressing down the button with the indicated direction of the motor run, i.e. arrow up – rooflight opening, arrow down – rooflight closing.
- The direction of the motor run may be reversed only if the motor is idling.
- Do not open and close the ventilation in an interval of less than 3 minutes.
- Do not replace fuses with a type other than that which was prescribed or if it has a different value
- Dot not put the ventilation into operation during icy weather, if loaded with snow or during another load.
- Do not put the ventilation equipment into operation if persons are moving in the neighbourhood of the rooflights.
Inform a professional electric company in the event of failure! The electric drive may only be repaired in the manufacturer’s workshop; opening or attempted opening of the motor cover has the consequence of loss of the right to a repair covered by the guarantee.
The following basic rules must be respected when controlling A 3000/VY:- Manhole with chains – chains prevent the dome from toppling over on the roof; the dome is not rigidly secured, we recommend closing the rooflight when entering the roof, so that wind cannot close it spontaneously and break it.
- Manhole with mechanical pistons – the open position of the rooflight must be secured manually by turning the pistons
- Manhole with pneumatic pistons - the open position of the rooflight must be secured manually by turning the pistons
Never open the rooflight wing more than defined by the end positions of the openers, otherwise the fixed and opening parts of the rooflight may be damaged.
During rain, wind and snow, the rooflight should always be closed and secured in order to prevent ripping out the hinges and controllers, breaking the dome and loss on the building equipment and outfit.
By adhering to these regulations, you will contribute to a longer lifetime of the rooflights.
Instructions for mounting the ARTUS - A 3000 type of dome rooflights
The surface onto which the rooflight sleeve is installed must be quite even, dry, without grease or mechanical impurities. When handling and mounting the sleeves on the roof, it is necessary to proceed in accordance with the valid safety regulations, primarily with the regulations related to work in heights!
Jointing material and building silicone is not part of the delivery. The jointing material for fastening the dome, including caps against leaking water is part of the delivery.
The dome rooflights are intended for installation on flat roofs or roofs with a mild slope.
The dome rooflights can be installed on:- Roof opening
- Roof opening provided with a soccle
1) The surface onto which the sleeve of the last layer is fastened is the last layer of the roof envelope; the neihbourhood of the opening allows screwing on the sleeve or anchoring it by means of expandable sockets.
Into the bottom contact surface of the sleeve, openings are drilled at a distance of 25 – 40 cm for anchoring the rooflight. The sleeve is installed on the openings for the bolts or expandable sockets. The sleeve is lifted and both contact surfaces are cleaned. A continuous strip of construction silicone is applied on the contact surface as a securing sealing. All the drilled holes are demarcated within the surface with silicone (important for the correct function of the securing sealing). The sleeve is laid and crewed on the base. The extruded silicone is spread over the entire perimeter. One hydroinsulation layer is pasted on the sleeve. We start on top closely below the upper collar, and overstretch below about 10 cm behind the sleeve rim. The corners are re-cladded and the upper joint of the hydroinsulation with the sleeve is carefully sealed.
2) Thermal insulation is laid on the current roof surface (pebble, soil).
A higher rooflight sleeve (30 or 50 cm) is used; the next procedure should be in accordance with Section 1). For a low sleeve, it is necessary to form soccles at the height of the added layers (thermal insulation, pebble, soil). The soccle is best made of wood (insulates thermally), steel or Al sheets, by brick laying or concreting. The soccle width should be at least 12 cm, height according to need.
3) Mounting a dome without a sleeve
The jointing material for fastening the dome, including caps against leaking water, is part of the delivery. If the previous instructions cannot be used, for example, when replacing the old domes, it is necessary to prevent contact of the dome with the dark base (insulation, metal sheet, etc.). We support the dome from below with a wooden frame or apply a durable white coat on the sheet base. If the dome is in contact with a dark base, the dome expands thermally due to the effect of a high temperature and there is a danger of its damage, primarily at the site of the dome joint with the base.Attention: When tightening the dome, the sealing tape should only be in light contact with the soccle used. In the event of excessive tightening, the dome might crack!
